NHL Rumors: John Klingberg Heading to Eastern Conference Team
Right-handed defenseman John Klingberg had his fair share of ups and downs last season with the Dallas Stars. He tried to negotiate a contract extension during the season and that left him with hurt feelings and no sense of appreciation from the team. Now the market opens and it's expected we see Klingberg sign with the Carolina Hurricanes.
The team lost Dougie Hamilton last summer and recently traded the rights of Tony DeAngelo and now will turn to Klingberg to fill the void. The 'Canes tried at numerous times last season to acquire Klingberg so it makes sense with the cap space they have, and the need at the position, to take a serious run at locking him in.
Last season Klingberg recorded 47 points in 74 games and the 29-year-old offensively gifted blueliner has produced 374 career points in 552 NHL games. Expect to see the 6-foot-3 defenseman sign for at least five seasons at roughly $6.5 million annually.
Another defenceman to watch today is John Klingberg. Both Seattle and Detroit have various levels of interest but Carolina (as EF has reported) is probably in the best position to offer what he's looking for. Carolina has been around Klingberg at various times all season.
