NHL Rumors: Latest on David Perron Contract Talks
St Louis Blues forward David Perron wants to return to the Blues and sign his sixth straight contract in St Louis, but from all accounts it doesn't sound like negotiations are going very well. Many felt the deal would be reached by now and Perron wouldn't be hitting the open market.
The veteran forward is one of the 'glue' players in St Louis and the Blues would be left with a big hole at right wing should Perron walk. He's coming off a season where he recorded 57 points in 67 games, showing no signs of slowing down at 34 years old.
While the coaching staff loves Perron, it's not their decision and frankly the NHL's a business. Last season the offensively gifted talent made $4 million against the cap and it's likely the Blues would love to see this number dip around $2.5-3 million moving forward.
If Perron decides that's not fair market value, look for the Seattle Kraken, Carolina Hurricanes and Edmonton Oilers pounce on their opportunity to contact Perron. The Oilers in particular will have a ton of interest on the open market.
