NHL Rumors: Latest on J.T Miller's Future with Vancouver Canucks
If there's a leader for how many times his name has been mentioned in trade rumors, it's Vancouver Canucks forward J.T Miller. Turns out his agent is here to finally put an end to the chatter?
Miller's agent Brian Bartlett recently met up with Harman Dayal of The Athletic and had this to say about his clients future with the franchise:
I do think there's a realistic path for an extension with the Canucks. J.T. loves it in Vancouver. He feels like the team is improving, he loved his role there, his family likes the city. He would be on board with an extension. The part that we can't answer is at what value or level the team places on him. From our end, from J.T.'s end, there's a path forward on an extension, but it takes two to tango, I guess.
Miller is coming off a career season where he posted 32 goals ad 99 points, and is set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. The Canucks are under new management and to this point it's hard to put a finger on just what type of direction they might head. Brock Boeser was signed long term and there's been multiple reports of the team trying to move Tyler Myers, Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Conor Garland, however to this point the trade chatter has been quiet.
Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin also spoke with Dayal and had this to say about where the team stands in contract talks:
Well, in a perfect world, I'd love to get it solved before the season either way. But I think that's in a perfect world, and we all know we're not living in a perfect world regarding pro sports. Our hard deadline is the trading deadline at this point, but I'm hopeful that we'll come to a solution here.
Worth noting, once the season starts Miller's camp does not want to negotiate. So if there's no extension agreed upon by puck drop opening night next season, expect to see Miller traded at some point. For now, his agent has made it clear his client wants to remain a Canuck.
