Rangers Re-Sign Talented Young Forward
The New York Rangers have taken care of some internal business as the team announced they have re-signed forward Kaapo Kakko to a two-year contract extension.
Kakko is set to earn $2.1 million annually over the next two seasons, as the former second overall pick will try to fill a bigger role on Broadway next season. In 2021-22, Kakko scored seven goals and 18 points in 43 games.

Kaapo Kakko, signed 2x$2.1M by NYR, is a young middle-six defensive winger who has carved out a decent role for himself as a third-wheel puck retriever but hasn't yet consistently shown the creativity and offensive skill he was drafted for. #NYR pic.twitter.com/tdQ50Nqf5O

After being a top pick, Kakko hasn't started his career as the Rangers were hoping so this is certainly a make or break contract for the young talented forward. So far in 157 career games, he's only tallied 58 points and will be leaned on for more production next season.
The 21-year-old will be a restricted free agent once his contract expires after the 2023-24 season.
