TRADE: Lightning and Predators Swing 3-Player Deal
The Nashville Predators have acquired 12-year veteran defenseman Ryan McDonagh from the Tampa Bay Lightning, in exchange for defenseman Philippe Myers and forward Grant Mismash.
Between McDonagh's $6.75M cap hit (for the next four seasons), and a cap credit with the buyout of Myers, the Bolts have gotten some serious cap relief here.
With a buyout of Myers, who has a unique cap credit that we’ve reported on, #GoBolts will have cleared more than $7.3 million in cap space with this trade. https://t.co/KExbKcursQ

The Lightning are poised to clear more than $7.3M in cap space, a move they needed to make to help keep the core of the three-time finalists together.
McDonagh has spent the last 4 1/2 seasons in Tampa, and was a key part of their back-to-back Stanley Cup titles. He's recorded 99 points and a plus-74 in his time with the club, while in the playoffs, he ranks 3rd all-time among Lightning defensemen in games played (89), assists (21) and scoring (23 pts).
He had a no-trade clause with the Bolts, but agreed to sign off on the trade.
Mismash was a 2nd round pick by the Preds in 2017, and has yet to make his NHL debut.
