Trouba will be the first captain the Rangers have had since they traded Ryan McDonagh to the Tampa Bay Lightning during the 2017-18 season. That is a long time to be without a captain, and McDonagh has since found a new home with the Nashville Predators.
Yet, the Rangers wanted to take a patient approach when finding their next captain. Trouba's name had come up as a possibility since last offseason, as he has been praised heavily for his leadership. Now, the Michigan native is officially set to be the Blueshirts' 28th captain in their history.
