NHL Rumors: Calgary Flames Defenseman Interested In Contract Extension
According to Salim Nadim Valji, MacKenzie Weegar has "a strong, genuine desire" to sign an extension with the Calgary Flames, and the team will have extension talks next week.
A source says Mackenzie Weegar has a “strong, genuine desire” to re-sign in Calgary…I believe both parties will engage next week in conversations about an extension for the Flames defenceman

David Pagnotta recently reported that the Flames were making extending Weegar their primary goal, and now we have confirmation that the 28-year-old is open to remaining a Flame for several more years.
With Huberdeau (and Mangiapane & Kylington) locked into new deals, focus will shift to Weegar. The two sides have already been talking. I suspect that’ll pick up now.

If the Flames are able to extend Weegar, it will change the entire complexion of the Matthew Tkachuk trade. A deal that already looks great for Calgary would be a home run if they can Weegar locked up, too. Time will tell what happens with their talks, but things are looking quite bright when it comes to an eventual Weegar extension.
