NHL Rumors: Calgary Flames Having Extension Talks With Defenseman
With Huberdeau (and Mangiapane & Kylington) locked into new deals, focus will shift to Weegar. The two sides have already been talking. I suspect that’ll pick up now.

This development comes shortly after the Flames signed Jonathan Huberdeau to a massive eight-year, $84 million extension. If the Flames can also get Weegar locked up for several more years, the Matthew Tkachuk trade with the Florida Panthers will look even better for Calgary GM Brad Treliving.
Weegar has emerged into a very good top-four defenseman in the NHL and should be a key part of the Flames' blueline this year. In 80 games in 2021-22 with the Panthers, he had eight goals, 44 points, and a plus-40 rating. Naturally, after a year like this, it makes sense that Calgary wants to have him on their roster for years to come. Let's see if a deal can be finalized from here.
