MacKinnon is severely underpaid at this juncture of his career. The superstar center carries a $6.85 million cap hit, and it has allowed the Avalanche a lot of legroom to build an excellent roster around him. Yet, if Dater's report is true, this is something that could change.
MacKinnon has stated in the past that he would be willing to take a discount to allow the Avalanche to remain as competitive as possible, but could the superstar leading Colorado to a Stanley Cup have changed his mindset? Alas, we will have to see if Dater's report is true from here.
