Seattle Kraken Re-Sign Young Defenceman

The Seattle Kraken had quite an odd expansion draft a year ago, but it was clear this team was building for the future with young, hard-working talent that will combine with some of their prospects like Matty Beniers and Shane Wright to make them a big time competitor down the line. Unfortunately for Kraken fans, this may year 1 a bit of a struggle, but after some good moves this off-season, they might be exciting in the upcoming season.

Cale Fleury, still just 23-years of age, appeared in 9 games for the Kraken a season ago, registering 0 points, but this team as a whole is getting better, and if injuries happen and Fleury gets a genuine shot in 2022, there's potential for him to build as the years go on. It's clear that he'll never be a superstar in The NHL, but Championship teams are built around role players doing whatever it takes to win, and Fleury is certainly capable of that in the future, which is why the Kraken inked him to a one-year, two-way deal worth $750 thousand.

It's going to take time for Seattle to build, and moves like this won't make them a contender, but if they can keep young players like this around and develop them as a key part of the future of Kraken hockey alongside Beniers, Wright and others, this team is going to be in good hands.
