Jalen Luypen had his left rotator cuff repaired, he is expected to return in 14-18 weeks.
McCabe is a 28-year-old defenseman who is likely a trade candidate for the rebuilding Blackhawks. He's signed through the 2024-25 season at $4 million annually and holds a seven-team no-trade protection. McCabe appeared in 75 games in Chicago last season, tallying 22 points. Many teams will be interested to see how he recovers from his surgery in a few months.
As for Luypen, the 20-year-old former seventh-round pick is a prospect who was in tough to crack the lineup this season. The 5-foot-10 center spent last season with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League, posting 64 points in 66 games. We wish both players a speedy recovery.
