Dallas Stars Re-Sign Goaltender To Three-Year Deal

The Dallas Stars may have lost in the first round of the 2022 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, but in doing so in 7-games against the Calgary Flames, a hero emerged in the form of goaltender Jake Oettinger, who put on a display for the ages in net. It may not have been enough to win the series, but it was enough to show Dallas that he could be their starting goaltender of the future, and today, they agreed, as the team announced Oettinger has been re-signed for 3-years, with a value of $4 million AAV.

In his first NHL playoff series, Oettinger went 3-4 with a ridiculous 1.81 GAA with a .954 Save percentage, in a performance that's being heralded among the best playoff series performances of all time. Oettinger is certainly less proven during the regular season, registering just 77 starts in his career, but with a record of 41-23 with a .913 save percentage, it's clear that the potential is there.

Only time will tell if he can back up the amazing playoff performance over a full 82 games, but it's safe to say that if Dallas can get back to the playoffs yet again in 2022/23, absolutely no team will want to play the Stars.
