Edmonton Oilers Sign Forward to PTO

After plenty of speculation beforehand, the Edmonton Oilers have officially signed Jake Virtanen to a professional tryout contract.

The Oilers were one of a handful of teams who were linked to Virtanen, but they are officially the club to have given him a chance to prove himself. He will now be aiming to earn himself a contract for the 2022-23 season and fight for a spot in their bottom six.

Virtanen has not played in the NHL since the 2020-21 season with the Vancouver Canucks, where he had five goals and a minus-4 rating in 38 games. He was released by the team after being accused of sexual assault. He recently was found not guilty, however, so that opened the door to a potential NHL comeback. Now, he will be hoping to become an Oiler from here.

In 317 career NHL games, Virtanen has 55 goals, 45 assists, and 100 points.
