Free-Agent Prospect Impressing At Red Wings’ Training Camp

While speaking with the media, Detroit Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde said that unsigned prospect Jeremie Biakabutuka has "made a good impression" and that the team has "liked having him around."

Biakabutuka is currently on an amateur tryout with the Red Wings, but it is clear that he is making a case to earn an entry-level contract with the club. If he continues to play this well at camp, it would be surprising if he doesn't eventually ink a deal with Detroit.

Biakabutuka split this past season between the Rimouski Oceanic and Charlottetown Islanders, where he had 10 goals to go along with 26 points in 60 games. Overall, those weren't bad numbers from the 6-foot-4 defenseman at all.
