NHL Rumors: Arizona Coyotes Expecting Sell Outs at 'New' Arena
Good news NHL fans, the Arizona Coyotes feel they can sell out a 5,000 seat arena. Let's hope moving to a college campus solves all the Coyotes attendance issues.
While the atmosphere is going to be electric, it's certainly not an ideal set up for an NHL hockey club. The Coyotes team president Xavier Gutierrez is confident things are going to work out for his team, regardless of what people think about the building. Gutierrez met with ESPN's Greg Wyshynski and had this to say:
We know this is going to be sold out for every single game, and we never had any doubt that was going to be the case. We could have sold this out to our existing season-ticket base, but we didn't think that was the right approach. We want to make sure that fans who have never experienced a game could experience it. That's a very tricky thing when you've downsized capacity. We're not gouging people here. You're slightly above an NHL average now while you were well below an NHL average before. And we're in a much more centrally located area.
Mullet arena is home of the Arizona State hockey teams and the 'Yotes have done their part, investing over $25 million to raise the rink to NHL standards. Average ticket price for a Coyotes game this season will be $170. This is above the NHL average of $154. A risky approach when getting fans in the seat has been a tough sell for a decade.
