NHL Rumors: Edmonton Oilers Linked To Winger

According to Daniel Nugent-Bowman, the Edmonton Oilers are "discussing the idea" of signing Brett Ritchie to a professional tryout contract.

Nugent-Bowman also reported that the Oilers may no longer have interest in Jake Virtanen, so it makes sense that they are changing their focus to Ritchie. Like Virtanen, Ritchie has the potential to be a bottom-six or extra forward for Edmonton.

Ritchie is somebody who the Oilers have seen often, as he played the last two seasons with their biggest rival - the Calgary Flames. In 43 games with Calgary this past season, he had three goals, one assist, and 29 penalty minutes. Yes, he isn't a dominant player offensively, but the 6-foot-4 winger plays a heavy game, and the Oilers may benefit from adding that element to camp.

Nevertheless, we will need to see if Ritchie ends up inking a PTO with the Oilers from here.
