NHL Rumors: Montreal Canadiens Shopping Winger
According to Marco D'Amico of Montreal Hockey Now, the Montreal Canadiens are shopping Joel Armia.
D'Amico noted that "a well-placed NHL executive" said that Canadiens GM Kent Hughes is looking to clear up space. Naturally, Armia and his $3.4 million cap hit until the end of the 2024-25 season makes him an understandable trade candidate. That is a decent chunk of change for a bottom-six forward, after all.
Teams looking for a defensive forward with playoff experience could be open to the prospect of acquiring Armia. The 6-foot-3 winger is coming off of a down year, however, as he had just six goals and 14 points in 60 games.
We will need to wait and see if the Canadiens can find a way to move the 29-year-old, but it's clear that Hughes is going to keep trying to help get some much-needed cap space.
