The Blues were reportedly interested in Chychrun before this past season's trade deadline, too, but a deal did not come to fruition. Yet, with the Blues not upgrading their left side this offseason through free agency, it makes sense that they are once again considering the prospect of adding the star defenseman to their group.
If the Blues were to successfully acquire Chychrun and his $4.6 million cap hit, they would need to move out at least one NHL roster player due to their limited cap space. With that, a first-round pick and at least one top prospect would need to be added to the package. A big price, yes, but given the fact that Chychrun is underpaid and has multiple years left on his deal, it is essential to land him.
Nevertheless, we will have to wait and see if the Blues end up being the lucky team to acquire Chychrun.
