NHL Rumors: Toronto Maple Leafs Looking to Add Defenseman
The Toronto Maple Leafs depth on the blueline took a hit when both Jordie Benn and Carl Dahlstrom both got hurt against the Montreal Canadiens. According to Darren Dreger, the Leafs called teams around the NHL asking about defensemen who are currently on PTOs elsewhere.

This isn't all too surprising to hear. Even with Rasmus Sandin now signed, the Maple Leafs have some injury trouble on defense and should aim to beef up their depth because of it. Even if they end up bringing in a veteran on a two-way or league-minimum deal, it would be better to have than not at this juncture.
We will need to wait and see if the Maple Leafs add a defenseman before the start of the season, but given this report by Dreger, it's clear that they hope to do so.
