NHL Rumors: Trade Coming from the Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames are expected to sign defenseman Michael Stone to a one-year contract, even after the two sides agreed to a PTO just days ago. If Stone gets his NHL deal, look for the Flames to make a move involving another defenseman.

Rumor has the Flames would like to add a little bit more forward depth for training camp as the re-tooling throughout the offseason has led to less depth up front to this point. Calgary has just over $2 million in cap space at the moment, which doesn't include a likely $750,000 for Stone's contract.

As far as trade candidates go, Oliver Kylington appears to be the odd man out as the team is not interested in moving any of MacKenzie Weegar, Rasmus Andersson, Noah Hanifin, Chris Tanev, or Nikita Zadorov. With Jusso Valimaki being half the price of Kylington, two years younger and a restricted free agent when his contract expires, all signs are pointing to the 25-year-old Kylington and his two years of remaining contract at $2.5 million.

Look for the Flames to be involved in trade talks all next week and throughout training camp as the 2022-23 season is right around the corner. After a disaster way to open the offseason, give Flames general manager Brad Treliving a ton of credit for how he re-tooled on the fly and likely made his team better in the process.
