NHL Rumors: Veteran Defenseman Still Unsure About Playing Future
Earlier this offseason, it was reported that Zdeno Chara would make his decision about his playing future in September. Now, it's September, so the 45-year-old's mind should be set, right? Wrong.
According to Pierre LeBrun, the future Hall of Famer is still unsure if he will play during the 2022-23 season.
A decision on that front may be announced shortly, however, as Chara is set to meet with his agent Matt Keator this weekend. Perhaps that means the pair will discuss the veteran's next option.
Chara just completed his 24th season in the NHL in 2021-22 as a member of the New York Islanders, where he had two goals, 14 points, and a plus-8 rating. Overall, he is still a serviceable bottom-pairing defenseman who plays a very heavy game, so it's likely he's plenty good enough to land a PTO, at a minimum. We will need to see what he decides from here.
