Philadelphia Flyers Defenseman's Career Could Be Over
While speaking with reporters, Philadelphia Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher said that Ryan Ellis is unlikely to play this season. With that, he also noted that Ellis' injury could be career-ending.
Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher says defenseman Ryan Ellis is unlikely to play this season, if he does “it will be a bonus”

Fletcher says it's way premature to say if this is season ending or career ending for Couturier. Says that Couturier is feeling better than he did last year. They're optimistic is can be resolved.

However, he does acknowledge that Ryan Ellis' issue could be career ending.
This is just horrible to hear. Ellis was limited to only four games this past season due to injury; during them, he was very effective. He recorded five points and a plus-2 rating as a Flyer last season, and now that is where his stats with the team could be coming to a close.
Ellis was traded to the Flyers last offseason with the expectation of becoming their top right-handed defenseman. Unfortunately, this long-term injury has not allowed him to be that, and it seems likely that he may never have the chance to be.
Here's to hoping that Ellis' injury does not force him to retire, but with Fletcher being so transparent, it seems that it very well could be.
