Philadelphia Flyers Goalie to Officially Miss 2022-23 Season
Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Ivan Fedotov has dropped his appeal regarding his charges of evading his military obligations in Russia. As a result, he will officially miss the 2022-23 season.
No suprise here: With the Russian court primed to rule against his appeal, Ivan Fedotov dropped his last-ditch attempt to be allowed to leave Russia and fulfill the contract he signed with the Flyers before he was detained. He is compelled to serve a full year in the military.

This seemed inevitable, as it would have taken a lot for the 25-year-old to have his charges dropped. Thus, rather than letting this situation play out longer, he will be in Russia serving his one-year military service.
Once served, Fedotov will be able to join the Flyers in 2023-24. The Flyers also have the option to move his one-year, $925,000 to next season, which is what they likely will do.
In 26 games last season with CSKA Moskva of the KHL, Fedotov had a 2.00 GAA and 9.19 SV%.
