O'Reilly has spent the last three seasons with the Flyers' AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. He is currently under contract with the AHL team at the time of this writing, but this PTO opportunity could change that if he impresses. Essentially, he is fighting for a two-way contract with the Flyers for the season, as it would open the door to a potential call-up to the team when injuries arise.
O'Reilly's last NHL appearance occurred during the 2017-18 season, when he played in one game with the Minnesota Wild. Since then, he has been a productive AHL scorer. In 145 career NHL games, the 35-year-old has 16 goals, 33 assists, and 49 points.
It will be intriguing to see if O'Reilly can earn himself a contract with the Flyers from here.
