St. Louis Blues Prospect Has Surgery

Keean Washkurak will not be with the St. Louis Blues for the rest of training camp. The 21-year-old forward has had wrist surgery and will be out for the next four to six weeks at least.

Although Washkurak was unlikely to secure himself a spot on the Blues' NHL roster because of their immense depth, it's hard not to feel bad for him. This was a grand opportunity for the Kitchener native to show St. Louis what he's capable of. Instead, the center will now have to focus on recovering and preparing for his eventual return to the ice.

Washkurak completed his first full AHL season this past year with the Springfield Thunderbirds. Overall, it was a decent year for the youngster, as he had 13 goals and 23 points in 64 games. That wasn't a bad showing for him, but he will now be aiming to take that next step for the Thunderbirds once he's fully healthy.
