Arizona Coyotes Claim Defenseman Off Waivers

The Arizona Coyotes have claimed Juuso Valimaki off waivers from the Calgary Flames.

When it was announced that Valimaki was hitting the waiver wire, it seemed possible that another club would claim him. After all, the 24-year-old defenseman is a former first-rounder, but at the same time, he has yet to cement himself as a full-time NHL d-man. Yet, with a very weak team like the Coyotes, it could create room for him to play top-six minutes at least.

Valimaki played in nine games for the Flames last season, where he had two assists and an even rating. With the Stockton Heat of the AHL, he scored two goals and recorded 18 points. Let's see if the change of scenery helps get his progression back on track.
