Blue Jackets Call Up Defenseman

The Columbus Blue Jackets have called up Gavin Bayreuther to their NHL roster.

Bayreuther saw a decent amount of action with Columbus last season, appearing in 43 games and recording eight assists. Overall, the 28-year-old has shown that he can be a decent depth guy to call upon when injuries arise, and now he is getting his first chance with Columbus this season because of it.

Fellow Blue Jackets defenseman Nick Blankenburg left Sunday's game early with an injury, so this Bayreuther call-up may be indicating that the former will have to miss time. It is a shame if true, as Blankenburg has had a decent start to 2022-23, as he has two assists in four games.

Alas, we will have to wait and see how Bayreuther performs filling in from here.
