Bo Horvat's Next Contract Comparison: Is It Worth It For Canucks?
The Vancouver Canucks are looking to re-sign their captain, but it may come at a costly price and one they can't afford. Elliotte Friedman thinks that a potential comparable for Bo Horvat would be Sean Couturier's eight-year, $7.75 million AAV deal.
If Horvat were to get this much money, he would be the second-highest paid forward on the team and third on the entire team to only J.T. Miller and Quinn Hughes. The other problem with Horvat getting that much from the Canucks on his next contract is that the team would continue to have three top-six centres down the middle. Unless they plan on continuously finding cheap wingers or play all three in the top-six, it's not the best use of their cap space.
The Canucks also have to think about extensions for their younger players like Vasily Podkolzin and Nils Hoglander while still dealing with the Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Tyler Myers overpayments. It will be interesting to see how events play out with this situation and if Horvat does indeed get as much money as Couturier considering he's not a former Selke Trophy winner and number one centre.
