Carolina Hurricanes Place Forward on Waivers
The Carolina Hurricanes have placed Jordan Martinook on waivers.
If you're surprised about this, it's understandable, as Martinook is one of Carolina's alternate captains and a well-known leader in their locker room. However, from a financial standpoint, this is also understandable. The Hurricanes have limited cap space and need to be compliant for opening night.
Martinook is coming off of a season that saw him record 15 points in 59 games. Overall, it was another fairly quiet season for offensively, so that likely played a role in this decision, too. Although the 30-year-old could certainly be a nice heart-and-soul player for another team to claim, his $1.8 million cap hit until the end of the 2023-24 season does not make that a guarantee. Alas, let's see what happens with the veteran from here.
