Colorado Avalanche Place 2 Former First-Rounders on Waivers
The Colorado Avalanche have placed their 2017 and 2018 first-round picks on waivers, as Shane Bowers and Martin Kaut are hitting the wire.
That certainly is not what they expected from these two former first-rounders, but given the Avalanche's depth and their slow developments, it isn't all that surprising of an occurrence.
Bowers scored just six goals and had nine points in 37 games last season with the Colorado Eagles. With these low numbers in the AHL, it's clear that he is not ready to play at the NHL level. Assuming he clears waivers, the 23-year-old will be aiming to be more productive offensively. Keep in mind, he did have 27 points in 48 games with the Eagles in 2019-20.
Kaut, on the other hand, appeared in six games for the Avalanche last season, where he failed to get on the scoresheet. In 46 games with the Eagles, he had 19 goals and 31 points. Out of the pair, he is the more likely to be claimed, so let's see if someone decides to take a chance on that 23-year-old winger from here.
