Edmonton Oilers Release Defenseman from PTO
The Edmonton Oilers have released Jason Demers from his PTO.
The Oilers invited Demers to camp with the hope that he could serve as a depth defenseman for them in 2022-23. Yet, after careful review, they have decided against doing this. Thus, the 34-year-old is now back at square one.
With the regular season just about here, there's a good chance that Demers will start the year as a free agent. This is not ideal, but if injuries around the league pick up rather noticeably, it could lead to him landing a deal elsewhere.
In 699 career NHL games, Demers has 45 goals, 169 assists, and 214 points.
