Flyers Claim Forward Off Waivers
The Philadelphia Flyers have claimed Kieffer Bellows off of waivers from the New York Islanders.
When it was announced that the Islanders placed Bellows on waivers, it seemed very likely that another team would claim him. After all, he is a former first-round pick who is coming off of a 19-point season in 45 games with the Islanders. Although he has yet to develop into the top-six forward that the Islanders hoped he would, he now is getting a much-needed fresh start in Philadelphia.
For multiple seasons, Bellows had a hard time fitting into the Islanders' lineup permanently, so this move to the Flyers could be a very good thing for him. With the Flyers also dealing with several injuries, he should have no trouble receiving minutes with them. Alas, this is a nice low-risk, high-reward waiver claim by the red-hot Flyers. At first glance, this looks like a good move by GM Chuck Fletcher.
