Former Kraken Defenseman Signs Overseas
After having his contract terminated by the Seattle Kraken, Michal Kempny has found a new home rather quickly. The veteran defenseman has signed a two-year deal (plus an option) with Sparta Praha of the Czech Extraliga.
Kempny inked a one-year deal with the Kraken in hopes of making their NHL roster, but that, unfortunately, did not come to fruition. Instead, the 32-year-old played in two games for their AHL affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds, where he had a goal. Now, he is heading back home for multiple seasons, and that likely marks the end of his NHL career.
In 247 career games between the Chicago Blackhawks and Washington Capitals, Kempny had 15 goals, 48 assists, and 63 points. With that, he was a part of Washington's 2018 Stanley Cup champion team.
