Kraken to Terminate Defenseman's Contract
Michal Kempny's time with the Seattle Kraken is coming to a close, as the veteran defenseman has been placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination.
Kempny inked a one-year, $750,000 contract with the Kraken during the offseason in hopes of making their NHL roster. However, that did not come to fruition, and he was placed on regular waivers during training camp. With a path to the Kraken's NHL roster not in sight, it's understandable that both parties want to move on.
Once Kempny clears waivers, he will be a UFA. In 15 games last season with the Washington Capitals, the 32-year-old had a goal and an assist.
