Montreal Canadiens Place Defenseman on IR
The Montreal Canadiens have placed Mike Matheson on injured reserve.
With this news, the Canadiens are going to have to wait a bit to see Matheson make his regular-season debut with the club. The 28-year-old was one of the main pieces they received from the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Jeff Petry deal this summer. As a result, they certainly want the Quebec native to get into the lineup as soon as possible.
Matheson was initially deemed as being day-to-day, but this IR placement means that he will not be able to play for the next week at least. Here's to hoping that the rest helps Matheson recover and that he can join the Canadiens shortly.
