New Jersey Devils Forward Sent Down to AHL
The New Jersey Devils have sent Andreas Johnsson down to the Utica Comets.
Johnsson's demotion isn't surprising at all. The 27-year-old winger had already been placed on waivers before the start of the regular season. However, he stayed with the team as an extra forward. Yet, now that Nico Hischier has been activated, that made Johnsson the odd man out.
Johnsson actually just had one of the best seasons of his NHL career in 2021-22. In 71 games, he scored 13 goals and recorded 35 points. Overall, it was a solid year, but his $3.4 million cap hit played a notable role in his demotion to the AHL. We will have to wait and see if he can earn himself a call-up at some point this season. For now, expect to see him record plenty of points with Utica.
