NHL Rumors: Blackhawks Forward to be Traded
The Chicago Blackhawks are in tanking mode, and players like Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews are big names in the rumor mill because of it. However, another trade candidate from Chicago who we should pay attention to is Andreas Athanasiou.
Athanasiou signed a one-year contract with the Blackhawks after recording a 17-point campaign in 28 games with the Los Angeles Kings last season. An injury-riddled season resulted in teams not willing to go long-term with the 28-year-old, so it makes sense that he took this prove-it deal from Chicago. However, that makes him a prime trade candidate, as he is of course a pending UFA again on a rebuilding squad.
If Athanasiou can produce like how he did last season but remain healthy in the process, the Blackhawks could get a decent return for the Woodbridge native. Regardless of the return, however, expect to see him dealt.
