NHL Rumors: Blackhawks to Trade Defenseman
The Chicago Blackhawks will be one of the most-talked-about teams in the rumor mill, as Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews are major trade candidates from them. However, they also have several other pending UFAs who we should see traded, and Jack Johnson is one of them.
Fresh off of winning the Stanley Cup as a member of the Colorado Avalanche, Johnson inked a one-year pact with the rebuilding Blackhawks. This ensured that the 35-year-old defenseman would get to play another season in the sport's most competitive league. Overall, he will provide more leadership and experience to Chicago's roster in the meantime but expect it to be short-lived. Johnson is a prime trade candidate come deadline time.
Johnson is having a solid start to the year, too, as he has two assists in four contests. Contenders will be looking for depth defensemen at the deadline, and Johnson fits that description perfectly. It doesn't hurt that he has a Stanley Cup now, too. Who knows? Maybe a reunion with the Avalanche could be on the way.
