NHL Rumors: Carolina Hurricanes Likely to Sign Forward
While speaking with the media, Carolina Hurricanes GM Don Waddell said that he "thinks" Derek Stepan will be signed for the 2022-23 season. At this juncture, the 32-year-old is still on a PTO with the team.
Stepan spent last season with the Hurricanes, where he had nine goals to go along with 19 points in 58 games. Although his days as a top-six center are over, he still proved to be a valuable bottom-six forward for them and should continue to be in 2022-23. His leadership and experience will be valuable for the Canes to have as well.
It is unlikely that Stepan will make too much money on his next deal given the circumstances he is in. However, even if he inked to, say, a league-minimum deal, it will provide him with at least another year of playing in the sport's most competitive league. Let's keep an eye out for a finalized contract from here.
