NHL Rumors: Maple Leafs Forward Becoming Trade Candidate
The Toronto Maple Leafs have very strong forward depth, and it has led to several former mainstays being healthy scratches at times this season. The most notable of the bunch is Pierre Engvall. The 6-foot-5 winger is coming off of a 35-point campaign in 78 games, but things have gone rough for him to start the year. In six games thus far, he has yet to record a point and sports a minus-2.
With the Maple Leafs needing help on defense and Engvall already sitting out a game, one has to wonder if Toronto would be open to moving him if it means landing a defenseman. It's important to note that Engvall is a pending UFA at the end of the season, so that could spark GM Kyle Dubas to go in this direction if the winger continues to not make an impact.
Given his solid 2021-22 season, there could be some interest in Engvall if he becomes available. This is something to keep an eye on as the year progresses.
