Red Wings Make Roster Move
With Michael Rasmussen receiving a two-game suspension, the Detroit Red Wings are down a mainstay forward. As a result, the Original Six club has called up Givani Smith to their NHL roster.
Like Rasmussen, Smith will provide some solid grit to their bottom six. The 24-year-old winger appeared in 46 games this past season, where he had four goals and seven points. Yet, physically is where he made his biggest impact, as he had 108 penalty minutes and 86 hits. Needless to say, he is going to once again be a pain for opposing teams to play against.
This is a grand opportunity for Smith to show Detroit that he is ready for a bigger role on their NHL roster. If he impresses, perhaps he could stick around as an extra forward. In three games with the Grand Rapids Griffins this season, he has an assist.
