Calgary Flames Goalie Calls Himself Out
Calgary Flames netminder Jacob Markstrom wants to be there for his teammates. Of late, that hasn't necessarily been the case as Markstrom is off to a tough start to the 2022-23 season.
Markstrom met with the media recently and had this to say about the current status of his game:
If you look strictly at the numbers, I've got to be better. I've got to step up here. We've got a great team, and we're playing good, and we're throwing a lot of pucks on their net. Pucks are going to find a way into their net, and I've got to keep them out.
The Flames sit with a 7-7-2 record, meanwhile Markstrom has posted a .887 Sv.% and a 3.06 GAA. Nobody in Calgary is pointing the finger at the crease, as the team collectively could improve, however it's hard not to notice how the Flames sit dead last in the NHL with a .877 Sv.%.
Calgary is hopeful things start to turnaround soon as they're back at it on Saturday night when they'll face off against the Florida Panthers. A giant spotlight will be cast on this matchup as Jonathan Huberdeau, MacKenzie Weegar and Matthew Tkachuk all face their former teams for the first time since the summer blockbuster.
