Washington Capitals Claim Forward Off Waivers
With several injuries to their forward group, the Washington Capitals have claimed Nicolas Aube-Kubel off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
When it was announced that Aube-Kubel was hitting the waiver wire, it seemed very likely that another team would snag him up. Keep in mind, this is a gritty forward who just recorded 22 points in 67 regular-season games with the Colorado Avalanche last season, and of course, won a Stanley Cup. With the Leafs, he simply wasn't a fit, as he was healthy scratched and had zero points in six games. Now, he will be aiming to bounce back in DC.
This is an understandable waiver claim. Connor Brown, T.J. Oshie, Tom Wilson, Nicklas Backstrom, Beck Malenstyn, and Carl Hagelin are all out with injuries, so the Capitals needed forward depth. Now, they have added to it with Aube-Kubel.
