Carolina Hurricanes Sign Goalie to Extension
The Carolina Hurricanes have signed Pyotr Kochetkov to a four-year, $8 million ($2 million AAV) contract extension.
Kochetkov has seven regular-season games and four playoff appearances of NHL experience on his resume, where he has put together a 5-0-2 record, 2.16 GAA, and .909 SV%. Overall, he has played well when called upon, and it has given the Hurricanes enough confidence in him to sign him to this long-term extension. Now, we will have to wait and see how the 23-year-old netminder continues to develop from here.
This signing also means that the Hurricanes are likely going to let either Antti Raanta or Frederik Andersen leave via free agency this offseason, as Kochetkov will not be in the AHL next season carrying that kind of cap hit.
Nevertheless, congrats to Kochetkov for earning this nice contract. Let's see how he can blossom into Carolina's eventual starter during it.
