Detroit Red Wings Forward Undergoes Surgery

After being hit from behind by Montreal Canadiens forward Juraj Slafkovsky, Detroit Red Wings forward Matt Luff has suffered a wrist injury that requires surgery. As a result, he will be out for the next 10 to 12 weeks.

This is tough news for Luff, as he was receiving fourth-line minutes over the last handful of games due to Detroit's injury trouble. In seven games total since his call-up, the 6-foot-2 winger has a goal and a minus-1 rating. Now, he is forced to miss notable time, and that could very well hurt his spot on the team's depth chart once he's healthy.

This is the second long-term injury the Red Wings have suffered this week, as Filip Zadina is out for six to eight weeks after blocking a shot. Here's to hoping both players can have speedy recoveries from here. As for Slafkovsky, the 2022 first-overall pick has a hearing for his hit, and a suspension is likely coming.

Update: Slafkovsky has been suspended for two games.
