Los Angeles Kings Goalie Placed on Waivers
After an impressive 2020-21 season, the Los Angeles Kings inked Cal Petersen to a three-year, $15 million contract extension while he had one year left on his previous contract. Now, in the first year of that said deal, the Kings have placed Petersen on waivers.
Petersen has struggled immensely since signing the deal, and things have been trending in the wrong direction this year. After having an .895 SV% in 37 games last season, Petersen has an .868 SV% and 3.75 GAA in 10 appearances this year. As a result, the Kings are now willing to lose him through the waiver wire.
Given his struggles and hefty contract, it does not seem too likely that Pedersen will be claimed, but strangers things have happened. We will have to wait and see if another club is willing to take a chance on him from here. If not, he will be heading to the AHL.
