Maple Leafs Rumors: Toronto Linked to Minnesota Wild Defenseman
According to Elliotte Friedman, keep an eye on Minnesota Wild defenseman Matt Dumba who could wind up being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs this season.
The Leafs are looking to add a defenseman and are likely to use the rental market to do so. The team has been dealing with a slew of injuries to their blue line, including one to Jake Muzzin who is likely done for the season. Ideally the team would like to acquire a right-handed shot for the stretch run to help balance things out.
Dumba has been linked to the Maple Leafs before and is a prime trade candidate out of Minnesota because of the team's cap situation and how he's a pending free agent who is not likely to re-sign with the franchise.
So far in 17 games this season, Dumba's production has dipped, registering only four points so far. He's capable of putting up 50-point seasons, but unfortunately hasn't been able to produce on this level for the past few seasons.
Dumba is making $6 million against the cap and holds a 10-team no trade clause. The Wild will likely need to retain some of his salary in order for a deal with the Maple Leafs to work. Expect to see some top prospects heading the other way should these two teams agree on a transaction.
