New Jersey Devils Make Roster Moves
The New Jersey Devils have made some changes to their roster. Akira Schmid has been called up to the NHL squad due to the injury of Mackenzie Blackwood, while Andreas Johnsson has been sent back down to the AHL.
Schmid is no stranger to being called up due to injury, as he appeared in six games for the Devils last season because of it. During them, the 22-year-old netminder had a 0-4-0 record, 4.83 GAA, and .833 SV%. Overall, the youngster struggled in his first NHL action, but he will be aiming to change if utilized during this call-up.
Johnsson, on the other hand, is heading back to the Utica Comets after beginning the season there. The 27-year-old was called up recently by New Jersey, but, unfortunately, did not get into any action during it. The victim of strong forward depth, Johnsson is still plenty good enough to play in the NHL, but there's no room for him in New Jersey. In 71 games last season, he had 13 goals and 35 points.
