NHL Rumors: Bruins & Coyotes Emerging as Trading Candidates
It is well-known that the Boston Bruins are going to be above the cap once Derek Forbort is activated off long-term injured reserve (LTIR). Their cap trouble has already led to Mike Reilly being demoted to the Providence Bruins because of his salary ($3 million), and the 29-year-old defenseman is wishing for a trade because of it. One team who could make a push to acquire Reilly is the Arizona Coyotes.
Because the Bruins need to clear out cap space, they are in a position of weakness in trade talks. As a result, to move Reilly, they are inevitably going to have to add a sweetener or two to the deal. A recent example of this is when the cash-strapped Vegas Golden Knights traded star winger Max Pacioretty and defenseman Dylan Coghlan to the Carolina Hurricanes for absolutely nothing this offseason.
With the Coyotes always willing to take on expensive contracts for extra draft picks, expect to see them in talks with the Bruins regarding Reilly. Let's see if the two teams make a deal from here.
