NHL Rumors: Sabres Dark Horse To Land Coyotes' Defenceman

The Jakob Chychrun talks are heating up now that he's back in the Arizona Coyotes' lineup and producing. It's no secret that a large number of teams will throw their name in the hat and inquire about the defencemen. But Jeff Marek suggested the Buffalo Sabres as a dark horse candidate to actually land Chychrun.

The Sabres are at the bottom of the standing this season and likely will not be competitors, but they must start acquiring players who can help them make an impact now. They have a young team and don't need anymore prospects, their team is set and they are happy with it.

The Sabres already have more than enough young players to decide between. Even without competing this season, they have the resources to acquire Chychrun and he would be a big piece in helping the team take that next step and finally pull out of the rebuild. They have ample amount of cap space, so acquiring someone who's as impactful as Chychrun at a very good price allows the team to save money to use in other areas.

Chychrun has a cap hit of $4.6 million AAV for the next two seasons following this one. He would play in the Sabres' top-four and give them four left shot defencemen amongst that group. The 24-year-old defenceman is able to play the right side as well and would be a great partner for Owen Power. Watch out for this team as they will be making some big moves within the next year to start competing.
